Abstract
1,222,430. Valves. PATINVEST PATENTUND INVESTMENT A.G. 20 March, 1968 [25 March, 1967], No. 13602/68. Heading F2V. A valve-controlling flow to an automatic washing machine has inlet and outlet chambers 47, 14 and series valve members 44, 26 of which the latter is under manual control by knob 22 through cam means 30, 31. Following opening of valve member 26 and a valve in the washing machine, a chamber 52 supplied from chamber 14 via restrictor 49 is drained via 65, and chamber 46 behind valve member 44 is also drained thereby allowing inlet pressure to unseat member 44. In normal use, flow will continue until the machine valve closes, whereupon pressure in chambers 46, 52 will rise and valve member 44 will seat. However, should flow continue beyond a predetermined time determined by the rate at which water can enter chamber 53 above diaphragm 51, via plug 71, the latter, with the aid of pin 62, throttles and finally closes passage 65 to raise pressure in chambers 52, 46 and seat valve member 44. Plug 71 (Fig. 8) includes an entry throttle 95 and an exit check valve 91, 99. Rotation of knob 22 also acts via cam surfaces 10 on ring 9 to move hub 13 of disc 15 axially thereby distorting the latter to raise or lower the pressure in chamber 14 when valve member 26 is opened and closed respectively and the machine valve is closed. These pressure variations can be sensed by a switch controlling the power supply to the machine. Fingers 38 depending from seat ring 38 abut disc 15 such that the latter moves the seat ring between active and inactive positions corresponding respectively to opening and closure of valve member 26. Plug 71 is interchangeable with a vent screw plug 70 which is normally closed.
