1,221,597. Radioactive iodine labelled mercury derivatives of fluorescein. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED. 5 Dec., 1968 [7 Dec., 1967], No. 57724/68. Heading C2J. A mercury derivative of the fluorescein series is prepared by treating with a bivalent mercury compound a compound of the general formula wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom; R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are hydrogen, halogen, alkyl residues having one to five carbon atoms or N(R<SP>7</SP>) 2 residues, where R<SP>7</SP> is hydrogen or an alkyl residue having one to five carbon atoms; and wherein at least one of the substituents R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> is a radioactive iodine atom; and wherein at least one of the substituents R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> is hydrogen. The iodine isotope used may be <SP>131</SP>I or <SP>125</SP>I. and the mercuric compound may be non-radioactive or contain the radioactive mercury isotopes <SP>203</SP>Hg or <SP>197</SP>Hg. Specified products of the invention are:-4<SP>1</SP>-hydroxymercury-2<SP>1</SP>,7<SP>1</SP>-diiodofluorescein; bis-hydroxymercury - 2<SP>1</SP>,7<SP>1</SP> - diiodofluorescein; dichloro-4<SP>1</SP>- hydroxymercury - 2<SP>1</SP>,7<SP>1</SP> - diiodofluorescein; diiodo - 4<SP>1</SP> - hydroxymercury - 2<SP>1</SP>,7<SP>1</SP> - dibromofluorescein; 2<SP>1</SP> - hydroxymercury - 2<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP> - diiodofluorescein; and bis-(hydroxymercury) - 4<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP>- diiodofluorescein. Each of these may be labelled with <SP>125</SP>I, or <SP>131</SP>I, or <SP>125</SP>I<SP>203</SP>Hg, or <SP>125</SP>I- <SP>197</SP>Hg, or <SP>131</SP>I<SP>203</SP>Hg, or <SP>131</SP>I<SP>197</SP>Hg.
