Abstract

1,220,897. Master cylinders. GIRLING Ltd. 3 Oct., 1969 [14 Oct., 1968], No. 48604/68. Heading F2F. In an hydraulic master cylinder comprising a pressure chamber 2, containing a piston 3 and a reservoir port 6 and a valve member for closing the port when the piston is advanced to generate pressure but spring biased to open the port when the piston is retracted, the valve member includes an annular resilient seal 16 supported by a rigid core part 14 the seal being formed with notches 22 or the core being formed with notches 26 to allow local deformation of the seal part to permit the release of excess pressure in the chamber 2 when the piston is in retracted position.
