Abstract

1,220,883. Cardboard boxes. W. ACHERMANN and F. ACHERMANN. 12 Feb., 1968 [17 Feb., 1967; 16 June, 1967; 10 Nov., 1967; 16 Nov., 1967], No. 6787/68. Heading B8P. A box, e.g. of cardboard, made from at least one blank, has on its underside integral parallel bracing runners with strengthening inserts within them. In one form, a box comprises side walls 1-4, Figs. 1, 2, joined at 7, 8 by adhesive tape 9, top walls 11-14 and interior, intermediate and exterior bottom wall layers 23, 22 and 24, 21 respectively. Upon folding, the scorelines 5 form bracing runners 4<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, their form being retained by the strips 21, 21<SP>1</SP>. The box may have an additional central runner formed from a separate blank and adhered by tape to the side walls 1, 3. In this form a third central strip 21<SP>1</SP> is provided. In another form the walls 11-14 are inturned about fold lines 5<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 10, to provide a double-walled open top box, where layers 21, 23, with insert guide grooves 28, are now interior and exterior bottom layers respectively. The blanks may be formed by gluing several units together. The inserts 29, Fig. 21, may be, e.g. generally V-, X- or U-shaped, and may be of, e.g. cardboard, plastics, plastics-coated cardboard or wooden blocks. In another form, Fig. 3 (not shown), the insert is a tapered multilayered cardboard block having its middle portion expanded by a resilient wedge inserted between the central layers. In another form, Fig. 32 (not shown), the insert is of foamed plastics and has a central slot at both ends to accommodate wedges when placed in the runners 4<SP>1</SP>.
