Abstract

1,220,515. Pipe stoppers; pipe joints. PNEUMATIQUES, CAOUTCHOUC MFR. ET PLASTIQUES KLEBER COLOMBES. 24 June, 1968 [23 June, 1967; 12 Oct., 1967], No. 30110/68. Headings F2G and F2P. A closure member for obturating the open end of a pipe 12 and which will allow the connection thereto of a pipe 15 of smaller diameter, comprises a plug 10 having axial movement limiting means, such as a flange 13, to limit the depth of insertion of the plug into the pipe and resilient lateral sealing means 16 for application to the internal wall of the pipe. The plug has at least two regions 27 defining circles of reduced axial thickness of different diameter from one another and is of a material which is cuttable, the closure member including a respective sealing lip for sealing the plug to a pipe 15 when the latter is passed through a hole formed by cutting the plug around one of the said regions 27. In modifications, (a) the plug has a peripheral groove for the reception of a radially inward flange on the pipe 12 (b) the joint 16 comprises a sealing washer provided with a metal flange and a tapered internal bore which is engaged by a tapered external surface of the plug, (c) the joint 16 is formed in two parts one of which is of a harder rubber than the supple sealing part and has an external groove for the reception of a pipe flange, (d) the plug has integrally moulded sealing lips 28, Fig. 9, of a diameter smaller than the notches 27 and for sealing against the pipe or pipes 15, (e) the plug 10, Fig. 11, is of cast iron or hard plastics material and has a number of holes each closed by a sleeve 32 of rubber, the central part of which forms a diaphragm 33; sealing lips 35 engage the pipes 15, and (f) the joint 16, Fig. 18, is constituted by a lip which is concentric with a skirt 40 forming therewith an annular space 41 in which the pipe 12 is received.
