Abstract

1,219,735. Steering wheel assembly. KAMEIAUTO - KOMFORT - WOLFSBURG K. MEIER KG. 28 May, 1969 [28 May, 1968], No. 26869/69. Heading B7J. A steering wheel rim 1 which is formed with a number of hollows la has a sheath or cover 2 engaging and affixed to the surface of the rim 1, all around, but not extending into, the hollows 1a the sheath 2 having a multiplicity of perforations 2a, at least some of which register with the hollows la, to provide ventilation when the rim is gripped. The sheath 2 has an inner resiliently compressible porous cellular or foamed synthetic resin core having outer fluid-impermeable skins. The rim 1 is preferably of a synthetic resin material and the sheath 2 is attached by e.g. welding, Fig. 1. Alternatively, the rim 1 is provided with a helical groove and a strip of e.g. polyvinyl chloride holds the sheath 2 in place and presses it into the groove. The sheath 2 may be in the form of a band, the longitudinal edges of which are welded together around the rim 1 which is provided with protuberances and annular ridges to prevent slipping of the sheath 2 on the rim 1.
