Abstract

1,219,192. Electro-photographic apparatus. FITCHBURG PAPER CO. Jan.30, 1968 [Feb.3, 1967] No.4823/68. Headings G2C and G2H. In an electro-photographic machine, a meduim bearing data to be selectively copied is in the form of a paper web 11, which web carries indicia 11a corresponding to data 11b to 11c which is not to be copied. The indicia is sensed by mechanism 19 which transmits an electrical impulse to switch off a lamp 7 while the data 11b to 11c is passing an exposure station 6 so that the data is not imaged on to a web 2. For obtaining copies, the photo-conductively coated web 2 is electrostatically charged and then line-by-line exposed by a projection lens 9 to data on the web 11. The latent images are developed by cascading powder and carrier particles on to them and the images fixed by a heated drum 17. The indica 11a may be perforations or protrusions; conductive or non-conductive marks; light responsive marks; magnetic or non-magnetic marks; friction marks; dielectric marks on radio-active isotopes.
