Abstract

1,218,099. Carpet cleaning machines. W. E. FRANKLIN (SHEFFIELD) Ltd. 9 May, 1969 [17 May, 1968], No. 23506/68. Heading D1L. Carpet material or pile fabric 1 is fed through the nip 5 of feed rolls 3 and 4 on to a conveyor 23 whereon it is sprayed with detergent 18, through the nip 10 between a roll 9 and a rotary brush having a cleaning comb 13 on to a conveyor 24 followed by a fixed feed bed 26 in the form of spaced fingers, and finally through the nip 15 of wringing rolls 14, spraying being effected with rinsing water 20 between nips 10 and 15. Conveyors 23 and 24 are each in the form of spaced endless bands. Roll 4 has bands of rough surfaced material to provide the roll with a continuous surface. Feed roll 3 and brush 7 each have guard hoods 11 and 12 respectively, hood 12 carrying comb 13. The detergent and/ or water may be fed from a horizontal pipe having spaced nozzles and taps. The brush may comprise nylon bristles mounted in an aluminium core and may be in longitudinal sections on a single spindle which is transversely adjustable and driven at one or both ends.
