Abstract

1,217,821. Stuffing-boxes. BRITISH TITAN PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. 29 Sept., 1969 [7 Jan., 1969], No. 932/69. Heading F2B. Sealing means for a shaft 7 extending through a member 4 comprises a cylindrical stuffing-box 1 detachably secured, as by bolts 3, to the member 4 and containing packing 13, a bush or flange 6 between the member and the packing and within the stuffing-box and a gland 9 which is secured to the stuffing-box by means, e.g. bolts 15, operative to move the gland to compress the packing as in Fig. 1 or, alternatively; when the stuffing-box is detached from the member, to withdraw the stuffing-box over the gland as in Fig. 2 to thereby expose the packing for eromination and/or renewal. The flange 6 may be integral with the member 1 and sealed to the stuffing-box by an 0-ring 8. The packing rings 13, which may be of asbestos or woven polypropylene or p.t.f.o., are separated into two sets 11, 12 by a lantern ring 14.
