Abstract

1,217,679. Tobacco-smoke filters. COURTAULDS Ltd. 30 May, 1968 [28 March, 1967], No. 13961/67. Heading A2C. A tobacco smoke filter comprises compacted wood pulp. The wood pulp may be used directly in the production of a filter; or treated with water, optionally including an adhesive such as starch paste or carboxymethyl cellulose, and then extruded and dried to form a filter rod direct; or applied to the surface of a substrate of film, paper, textile material, or an opened tow of cellulose acetate filaments, and the combined material compacted into the desired shape. Other adsorbent materials, such as active carbon, may be added to the pulp.
