Abstract
1,217,543. Rotary pocket-wheel feeders. C. W. VOGT. 10 Jan., 1968, No. 1408/68. Heading B8A. A mechanism for feeding pulverant material comprises a rotary pocket wheel and means for applying suction through a gas permeable member to the pockets to withdraw gas from the material as the pockets move from the material inlet to the outlet. In the embodiment shown, Fig. 2, the pocket wheel 13, provided with flexible scrapers 33, is rotatably mounted in a housing 8 which is provided with an opening 26 adjacent to the material inlet 9. The opening 26 is connected to a suction source and is covered by a gas permeable membrane 27. The housing 8 is provided with a vent 36. In operation, the suction applied through the membrane assists the passage of material into the pockets and compacts the material by withdrawing gas from the pockets. In a second embodiment, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), the opening 26 is omitted and suction is applied to air permeable membranes mounted at the base of each pocket.
