Foamed polymers containing complexed isocyanurate groups are made by polymerizing a compound containing more than one isocyanate or masked isocyanate group in the presence of an isocyanate polymerization catalyst and a blowing agent, or of a compound capable of acting both as catalyst and blowing agent, and in the presence of a compound which is capable of forming complexes with isocyanurate rings, sufficient blowing agent being used so that the foamed polymer has a bulk density of at least 15 kg./m.<SP>3</SP> The complex-forming compound may be an aromatic compound, ether, nitrile, oxo or acyl compound or an N-alkyl amide of an aliphatic carboxylic acid. The polymerization may be carried out in the presence of active hydrogen compounds. In the examples a polyaryl - polymethylene - polyisocyanate, prepared by aniline-formaldehyde condensation followed by phosgenation, is stirred with a mixture of the catalyst (a Mannich base derived from phenol, p-isododecyl phenol or p-isononylphenol, dimethylamine and formaldehyde and optionally N-methylethanolamine) a polysiloxane-polyether copolymer, monofluorotrichloromethane and numerous complexing agents.
