Abstract

1,216,718. Mowing machine. C. VAN DER LELY N.V. 8 May, 1968 [12 May, 1967], No. 21900/68. Heading A1F. A mowing machine comprising a plurality of cutting members arranged to be rotated about corresponding vertical axes by the p.t.o shaft of a tractor is characterized in that the cutting members can be driven at different common speeds of rotation whilst retaining their previous directions, in response to a single speed of rotation of the p.t.o. shaft. The mower frame 2, 3 is adapted to be connected to the 3 point lift linkage of the tractor, the p.t.o. shaft coupling to shaft 18 that transmits drive via a pair of pinions 19, 20 to shaft 16. The drive does not extend to the gears 21, 22. Shaft 16 in turn transmits drive to the other cutting members via bevels 10, 11, 13, such that the members form a set of oppositely-rotating pairs. Their common speed of rotation may be changed by either inverting the gear set, reversing the gear set to use gears 21, 22, or by performing both operations, with the aid of a quickly releasable fastening. The frame is supported by ground wheels 74 disposed beneath the cutter support plate 79, and ground wheels 38 adjustably disposed on a support 35. Lugs 24 are provided at one end of the frame enabling a portion of the frame to pivot, about a horizontal axis in the direction of intended travel of the mower, into a transport position being determined by the abutment of the oblique faces of the frame. The drive to the cutting member of this portion is correspondingly made universal. Further pivotable portions may be added.
