Abstract

1,216,698. Joining sections of a pile. JOHNSON CONSTRUCTION CO. A.B. 16 May, 1968 [17 May, 1967], No. 23397/68. Heading E1H. A pile jointing device comprises a plate 1 securable to the end of a pile section (e.g. by reinforcing rods 3 cast into the section) the plate having a flat face (on top as shown) for mating with a similar flat face of a similar plate on an adjacent pile section, the plate having a series of prongs 4 and recesses 5 uniformly spaced round a pitch circle concentric with the pile axis and spaced inwardly from the plate periphery, the prongs and recesses being engageable with similar recesses and prongs on the similar plate so that one relative rotation about the pile axis of the mating plates the prongs engage to prevent relative axial displacement of the two mating plates. The prongs 4 and recesses 5 may be pressed out of the plate 1, which may have a depending skirt 2 surrounding the end of the attached pile section. A pile driving tip, Fig. 3 (not shown) is described having a plate 1 with prongs 4 and recesses 5 for engaging a similar plate or a pile section connected by a conical casting (10) to a steel anvil (11).
