Abstract

1,216,656. Container closures; filling and emptying containers. GKN SANKEY Ltd. 29 Dec., 1967 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 58438/66. Heading B8T. An inlet/outlet fitting 11, e.g. for a collapsible plastics container 12, comprises a two-part housing 13, 17 for a poppet valve unit including a valve member 27 spring-biased away from a supporting spider 29, a flange 15 on one housing part 13 being attachable to the container 12, and a lip 25 defining a valve seat. A tapping assembly 33 includes a body 34 supporting a spider 38 provided with a probe 39, which depresses the valve head 26 to open the valve when the assembly 33 is screwed on to the fitting 11, the spider 38 also acting as a sealing washer. Preferably the fitting 11 and assembly 33 are of plastics material, e.g. polythene, and the container 12 may be for a sterile cream. A filling assembly (not shown) similar to the assembly 33 may be provided.
