Abstract

1,216,640. Heat exchangers. E. E. GOETZ. 22 May, 1969 [13 June, 1968], No. 26308/69. Heading F4S. Apparatus for heating or cooling fluid from equipment 14, e.g. engines, machine tools or reactors, comprises a stationary mounting member 11 having an inlet 12 and outlet adapted to communicate with an outlet and inlet 140, 141 respectively of the equipment. The support member mounts a heat exchange assembly 20 for rotation e.g. by a V- belt 200 on a pulley 201 about a fixed central shaft 17. The assembly comprises a pump 21 having an annular pump chamber 22 divided into sub-chambers by radial fixed vanes 214 secured to the walls of the chamber, each vane being located adjacent an outlet 220 from the chamber to the radially outmost leg of a U-shaped passage 240 forming a heat exchange element. The innermost leg is connected to an annular fluid collection chamber 23 formed in the assembly for flow through passages 230 and the interior of the shaft 17 to the inlet 141 of the equipment 14. Ambient, cooling or heated air flows through apertures 310 in an end cover member 31 into a central space defined by the heat exchange elements 24 as the assembly and elements rotate for radially outward flow over the elements which are finned.
