Abstract

1,215,102. Coating glass filaments. HOUIL-LBRES DU BASSIN DU NORD ET DU PAS-DE-CALAIS. 10 March, 1969 [29 March, 1968], No. 12550/69. Heading D1L. Apparatus for coating glass filaments with a cross-linkable liquid resin comprises a vertically adjustable jockey roll 3; an applicator roll 6 partially immersed in resin; a wiper/ recombiner 13 comprising a curved knife 13a edged with rubber and a spaced similarly curved steel rod 13c; and a pivoting arm tensioner 14 comprising tensioning rolls 16-19. The jockey soll 3 which may be coated with polyformal resin is mounted on a pivotalble arm 4 so that the arc of contact of the filaments with the surface of the applicator roll 6 may be 5‹-30‹. The applicator roll which may be of stainless steel is provided with a steel doctor blade 9 and a scraper comb 10. The filaments pass an entry comb 1, jockey roll 3, applicator 6, a polished steel tensioning rod 11, an intermediate comb 12, wiper-recombiner 13, pivoted arm tensioner 14, a rodding device 20 having a comb 20a and polished steel rods 20 b and c and are taken up by a rotary former. Combs 1, and 12 have teeth of sintered titanium oxide. Comb 20a has teeth of polished steel.
