1,214,194. Anthraquinone dyes. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 21 Nov., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967], No. 55253/68. Heading C4P. Novel dyes of formula (wherein Hal is Br or Cl; A is the radical of an optionally substituted diphenylalkane, diphenylcycloalkane, diphenyl ether or diphenyl thioether, which radical is bound by carbon atoms of the benzene rings to the nitrogen, to the S0 3 H group(s) and to the -CH 2 N(R)COY group); R is H or C 1-5 alkyl; Y is alkyl or an optionally substituted cycloalkyl or aryl group; and n is 1 or 2), or mixtures of such dyes, are prepared by reacting a 1-amino-2-halo-4- (-NHA<SP>1</SP>)-anthraquinone (wherein A<SP>1</SP> is a monovalent radical corresponding to A) in either order with n mol. of a sulphonating agent and one mol. of a compound of formula or reactive functional derivative thereof. The products may be used to dye or print fibrous polyamide material, and impart blue shades. An intermediate of formula is isolated in Example 2. 1 - Amino - 2 - bromo - 4 - (p - phenoxyanilino) - anthraquinone is prepared by reacting phenyl (p - aminophenyl) ether with 1 - amino- 2,4-dibromo-anthraquinone. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 945,806.
