Abstract
1,213,892. Capacitors. PIRELLI S.p.A. 30 Aug., 1968 [30 Aug., 1967; 22 Dec., 1967], No. 41401/68. Heading H1M. A capacitor for power factor correction plant comprises coaxial electrodes 1, 2 inner electrode 1 being perforated so that insulating fluid within it may communicate with insulating fluid impregnating the e.g. paper tape dielectric 3 between the electrodes. The electrodes may be extruded aluminium and capacitors e.g. 2700 metres long may be coiled in skeins with adjacent turns in contact; and bound with non-magnetic tape. This contact may provide adequate heat dissipation or further forced cooling may be employed. Fig. 3 illustrates a plant comprising a set of three skeins for each of three phases in an oil-tight tank 14. The inner conductors in skeins 8, 9, 10 are connected in parallel to terminal 11 by means of hollow, compressed sulphur hexafluoride insulated connecting conductors 12, 16, 17, 22 and 23 and trifurcating boxes 15, 18, 21, 24 and 27, the two ends 19 and 20, 25 and 26, 28 and 29 of each inner electrode also being connected while permitting the flow of insulating fluid. The outer electrodes are earthed via the outer conductors of the trifurcating boxes and tank 14.
