Abstract

1,213,077. Sheet forming. M. BECKER and H. BELMUTH. 3 July, 1969, No. 33561/69. Heading B5A. Hollow articles, such as brassiere cups, are deep drawn from a thermoplastic fabric of, for example a polyester, by clamping the fabric, deep drawing it in one direction using a heated male member, and then deep drawing it in the other direction using a cool male member upon which the article is allowed to set. In the embodiment illustrated in the figure, the sheet F is slidably clamped between a table 14 and a holding plate 44 resiliently mounted by springs from an upper plate 42 and is drawn downwardly by an air cylinder actuated heated male die 16. The die is then withdrawn and simultaneously a similarly actuated lower unheated male die 18 is raised so that the sheet is transferred from the upper to the lower die and the direction of draw reversed.
