Abstract
1,212,519. End plates for metal drums. FUTS METALLIQUES GALLAY S.A. 5 Dec., 1967 [27 Dec., 1966], No. 55318/67. Heading B8D. An end plate for a metal drum extends inwards from a crimping zone 9, through a cylindrical peripheral re-entrant wall 10 adapted to fit into the cylindrical end 8 of the drum and adjacent to a circumferential channel 11 with a radially inward lateral wall 12 of less depth than the wall 10, curtailed by a curved zone 13. As shown, annular ribs 15, 17 in the end plate are of less depth than the channel 11, and a central dished zone 19 is still shallower. As a modification the depths of the concentric ribs decrease progressively towards the drum centre. Under stress when the end plate bows the flange depth H of the drum wall 10 is such that the central dished zone 19 does not touch the supporting surface. In a further embodiment (not shown) the circular ribs of the end plate are omitted. The drum body has sets of circumferential corrugations of different depths, Fig. 1 (not shown), for rolling purposes &c.
