Abstract
1,211,476. Disc brakes. GIRLING Ltd. 18 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968], No. 20347/68. Heading F2E. In a brake of the kind comprising rotatable discs 11, 12 keyed to and axially movable on a shaft 14 and urged apart by balls or rollers 18 located in co-operating inclined or conical recesses 19, 21 in adjacent faces of pressure plates 16, 17 on relative angular movement between the plates to be gripped between the plates and radial surfaces 15 on a stationary housing 10, the plates are rotated relative to one another by operative couplings between a rotatable shaft 24, parallel to the axis of the brake and passing through a part-circumferential slot 25 in the housing, and radially projecting lugs 22, 23 on the plates. As shown, the shaft has integral therewith or welded thereto a U-shaped member 26 which is connected to the lugs by oppositely inclined links 27, 28. In a modification, the shaft 24 receives a pin (33), Fig. 4 (not shown), fixed in the lug 22 and has a radial arm (34) connected by a link (35) to the lug 23.
