1,211,144. Woodworking. BIURO KOMPLETOWANIA ZAKLADOW PRZEMYSLU DRZEWNEGO BEKAZED. 8 May, 1968 [8 May, 1967], No. 21683/68. Heading B5L. A drum-type machine for cutting wood shavings comprises a magazine-and-feeding chamber having a cross-section in a plane A-A perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the drum formed on one side by a section of a circle generated by a cutting tool secured to the drum 1 and on the other side by a wall in the shape of an involute, the ends of the chamber being formed by two parallel side walls of a fixed frame 6. The drum is supported by tubular shafts 2, 3 in bearings in the frame and is rotated by a motor 4. Shaft 2 contains a fan 7 and a worm-type guiding stator 5 is disposed within the shaft and secured to the frame so that shavings produced by cutters on the drum and passed through holes to the interior of the drum are expelled therefrom through the tubular shaft 3. Alternatively, a stream of air could be supplied from some other source to the shaft 2. The frame has a fixed part 6 and a part 8 which is in the form of an involute curve and provides, with the cutter, the magazine-andfeeding chamber, the part being mounted on a pivot 9 and a shock absorbing member 10.
