Abstract
1,211,131. Coiling wire. INDUCTIVE APPLIANCES (1963) Ltd. 17 Dec., 1968 [8 Jan., 1968; 9 July, 1968], Nos. 1089/68 and 32651/68. Heading B3E. [Also in Division H1] A method of making electrical inductors comprises drawing steel strips or wires from spools by driving rollers 5 and 6 and bringing them into contact with one another to form a core 7. A first paper lapping 8 is applied to the core 7 by rotating a reel 9 of paper tape around the axis. One of two coils of insulated copper wire are then wound over the paper lapping in the opposite sense by means of a winding head 11. At the winding head 11 the end of the wire carried by a spool 68- is led outwardly, with a component of motion parallel with the axis, over pulley 57, inwardly with a further component parallel with the axis, over pulley 58 and then around pulley 59 to pulley 60 forming a loop. The end of the wire is then attached to the core. A disc 56 and the spool 68 are rotated in an anti-clockwise direction by a drive pulley 55; the drive to the spool 68 being so arranged that the spool is driven at a speed equal to or slightly in excess of the speed necessary to supply wire to the pulleys 57-60 when the spool is full. As wire is drawn off the spool, the latter has to rotate faster and this is permitted by a free wheel device 85 which then over-runs. The pulley 60 rotates the loop around the core in an anti-clockwise direction as the core ismoved axially thus winding on the wire. The second coil is wound over the coil 10 in the opposite sense by means of a winding head 13 which is identical to the winding head 11. After receiving the two coils of wire the core 12 has a second paper lapping applied to it at 15 after which it is cut into required lengths by a travelling circular saw 20.
