Abstract

1,210,235. Induction motors. MULLARD Ltd. 29 Dec., 1967 [16 May, 1967], No. 22689/67. Heading H2A. A disc rotor split-phase or shaded pole eddy current motor has main and auxiliary stator coils located around the motor axis and main and auxiliary magnetic circuits located on both sides of the rotor, each magnetic circuit having at least four polepieces located around the axis and each pole of each circuit being positioned between two adjacent poles of the other circuit. The coils may be located on the same side of the rotor R, Fig. 6, or on opposite sides, Fig. 7 (only one side of rotor shown), or each may be split into two parts with one part on each side of the rotor. The coils are fed with out of phase currents or one may be shortcircuited to form a shading coil. The polepieces are formed from stamped or pressed sheet metal and two adjacent poles 2, 3 of the main and auxiliary circuits may be formed from a single stamping which may be continuous or may have a radial slot to separate the poles. The two halves of the stator may be of the same construction or the side opposite the coils (where the coils are on the same side of the rotor) may be formed of a single stamping having a plurality of radial slots to form the polepieces. Where the coils are on opposite sides of the rotor, Fig. 7, each stator half may include a toothed ring T, the teeth being located opposite the polepieces of the other stator half to act as return paths for the flux. The motor is said to be of use as a tachometer.
