Abstract

1,209,775. Laminated fabric. JOHNSON & JOHNSON. 8 Nov., 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 50742/67. Heading B5N. A laminated non-woven fabric comprises a layer of overlapping, intersecting fibres bonded to a layer of synthetic polymer fibres, which are mutually interconnected, e.g. a fibrillated film, and are oriented in the transverse direction of the fabric. Preferably the first layer is oriented in the longitudinal direction. The polymer fibre layer may comprise polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, e.g. nylon, polyester, polyurethane, polyacrylics, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride or copolymers or mixtures thereof, and may be made by orienting a film of polymer by stretching in a tenter frame with heating, and applying forces in the longitudinal direction, e.g. by ultrasonics, brushing, passage between compressed belts or passage over a knife edge, to produce interconnected fibres. The other fibrous layer may be a carded web of staple fibres of cotton, wool, rayon, regenerated cellulose, polyolefin, polyester or polyamide, and may be prebonded before laminating. The layers may be bonded by adhesive, solvent bonding, needle punching or heating to unite thermoplastic fibres, in which case said other layer may include fibres of the same polymer as the polymer fibre layer. Other layers can be present.
