Abstract

1,209,720. Sockets. STREATER INDUSTRIES Inc. 14 May, 1969 [7 June, 1968], No. 24694/69. Heading E2B. A socket for securing and holding a sign pole comprises a tubular body portion 10 having a cylindrically shaped outer surface and a bore having a cylindrically shaped surface portion, an integral annular flange 12 surrounding the top of the body portion and a plurality of circumferentially spaced protuberances 32 extending radially inwardly from said bore surface portion the protuberances having flat downwardly converging surfaces 34. As shown the body portion and flange are formed with a longitudinally extending slot 24 to enable the socket to 'be radially compressed. The socket is also formed with a plurality of circumferentially spaced nipplelike protuberances extending radially upwardly from the outer surface of the body portion and spaced from the flange so that in use the flange can engage one surface of a support and the protuberances the opposite surface to retain the socket in place. The shape of the protuberances 32 is such that they can grip both circular section and rectangular section poles.
