Abstract

1,209,381. Arsenic antimony sulphide. PENNSALT CHEMICALS CORP. 24 Jan., 1968 [26 Jan., 1967], No. 3801/68. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions C7, C5 and F2] Arsenic antimony sulphide As x Sb y S z where x, y = 0.7 to 1.3 and z = 3 to 5, preferably AsSbS 4 is prepared by (1) a hot solution of As 2 O 3 in aqueous NaOH is stirred into hot aqueous Na 3 SbS 4 .9H 2 O. 5% aqueous HCl is added to precipitate the product which is washed with hot water, 95% ethanol, CCl 4 /CS 2 , acetone and ethanol in sequence to remove impurities or (2) S, As 2 S 3 and Sb 2 S 3 are ground together and heated for 16 hrs. at 550‹ C. in a Carius tube and the resulting solid ground and washed with 5% HCl, H 2 O, hot CCl 4 /CS 2 , acetone and 95% ethanol in sequence to remove impurities. The As 2 S 3 or As may be omitted. Proportions of reactants are given for both methods.
