Abstract
1,209,371. Rotary kilns. KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. 17 Jan., 1968 [21 Feb., 1967],No. 2529/68. Heading F4B. The discharge end of a rotary kiln which projects into a surrounding stationary discharge head 4 is constructed as an air-cooled discharge ring formed from concentric inner and outer shells 5, 6 respectively which are spaced apart by resilient connecting members 7, the inner shell 5 being flanged on to the shell 1 of the rotary kiln. Circumferentially spaced tubular supporting arms 9 are welded to the inner shell 5, and carry protective discharge segments 8, which both seal off the space between the inner and outer shells 5, 6 from the inside of the kiln, and help retain in position the kiln lining 14. The arms 9 and segments 8 are secured together by radially extending pins 10 which are prevented from falling out as the kiln rotates by a metal anchor plate 11 located in an annular groove 16 in a bore of the segment 8. The outer shell 6 carries a sealing ring 13 which bears against a stationary seal 12 carried by the discharge head 4. Each segment 8 is of standard arc and radius of curvature, differing numbers of the segments being assembled together to provide discharge rings of a range of diameters.
