Abstract

1,209,316. Golf ball core. GOLF BALL DEVELOPMENT Ltd. 20 May, 1968 [6 June, 1967], No. 25947/67. Heading A6D. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a core for a golf ball comprises a pair of rubber or like resilient and elastic hemispherical shells 10 each having an integral and radially inwardly projecting lip 12 in abutment with the lip of the other shell to seal a liquid filling within the hollow sphere formed by the shells. The core may be further provided with an integral and radially outwardly projecting flange 11 which facilitate location and handling of the shells during manufacture of the core. The cores are manufactured by applying adhesive to the rim and a radially inwardly projecting lip of one or both hemispherical shells, completely filling each shell with liquid and assembling the shells with their rims and lips in abutment to form a spherical liquid filled sealed core. Assembly may take place in a hinged two part jig and the flange 11 may be trimmed off prior to winding the core. To manufacture a golf ball the core is frozen to solidify the liquid filling, wound with an elastic tape and/or thread and then provided with a covering.
