Abstract

120,837. Savery, W. E. March 2, 1918. Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-Relates to rubbing-collar devices for rotary pumps, of the kind in which a ring secured to the centre of a flexible diaphragm bears on a ring carried by the shaft. The pump spindle a has a flange b, recessed to hold a ring c of lignum vitµ &c., on which bears a metal ring and secured to a flexible diaphragm e of rubber, leather, or corrugated metal. The rings are pressed together by a spring f enclosed in a sleeve k and bearing on a plate g attached to the pump casing. The outer edge of the diaphragm is secured between plates i, j, one of which is screwed into the casing, a ring l being interposed to protect the diaphragm while the plate j is being screwed up.
