Abstract

1,207,320. Hoist safety devices. MEYER MACHINE Inc. 11 Dec., 1967, No. 56298/67. Heading B8L. A safety clamp device 10 for a movable platform 16 includes a bar 36 pivoted at 41 to the platform 16 and attached to a supporting hoist line 13. A safety cable 11 is anchored independently of the hoist line 13 and is slidably received through a body member 19 wherein it is guided by a roller (26), Fig. 3 (not shown), on a bolt 24a. A cable clamping lever arm 27 is pivoted by a shoulder bolt 28 to the body member 19 and has a cable clamping cam portion 32 which in normal position is held clear of the cable 11 by a spring 39, an upright edge 22 of the body member 19 normally lying against the bar 36, the lever arm 27 being also pivoted on a shouldered bolt 34 to the bar 36. Failure of the hoist line 13 results in the spring 39 causing the lever arm 27 to pivot and supplements the downward movement of the platform 16, the safety cable 11 being wedged in the body member 19 by the cam portion 32.
