Abstract

1,207,269. Hydrogenation of pyrolysis gasoline. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 11 Sept., 1968 [19 Oct., 1967], No. 43202/68. Addition to 1,109,726. Heading C5E. In a modification of the process for the selective hydrogenation of pyrolysis gasolines or fractions thereof in the presence of noble metal catalysts on aluminium spinel supports at an elevated temperature according to the parent Specification 1,109,726, the hydrogenation treatment at a temperature below 100‹ C. is followed by a similar treatment at a temperature of from 150‹ to 250‹ C., noble metals on aluminium spinel supports being used as catalysts. The first hydrogenation removes gum-forming diolefins; the second removes mono-olefins. Some desulphurization also takes place. The catalyst may be Pd or mixtures of Pd with Pt, Ru or Au. The spinel may be made by heating Al 2 O 3 with an oxide of Li, Be, Mg, Zn, Mn, Co or Ni.
