Abstract

1,207,220. Coated paper. CHAS. PFIZER & CO., Inc. 24 Dec., 1968 [3 July, 1968], No. 61470/68. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C4] Paper is coated with a composition comprising the product of reacting aluminium sulphate wish calcium carbonate in an aqueous medium. The product is a pigment consisting of hydrated calcium sulphate and aluminium hydroxide or alumina gel. The composition may also contain satin white or clay pigments, an adhesive such as starch, casein, protein or a synthetic latex, a polyalkylene glycol, aluminium or calcium stearate, alginates, and sodium metaphosphate. A single coating containing the pigment of the invention, clay, satin white and an adhesive may be applied. Alternatively, a primer containing the pigment of the invention and adhesive, with or without satin white, may be followed by a coating containing clay and adhesive and optionally the inventive pigment. Conventional coating methods, e.g. air knife, roller, or trailing blade methods are used, the latter being exemplified.
