Abstract
1,206,976. Shaft furnaces. PENZENSKY KOMPRESSORNY ZAVOD. 7 Aug., 1967 [6 Aug., 1966], No. 36135/67. Heading F4B. [Also in Division C7] A gas-fired cupola furnace in which the charge may be subjected to non-oxidizing conditions consists of a shaft provided with a shoulder 1 upon which the charge is supported, and with tuyeres 4 for the combustion of gas. Within the lining of the furnace is an annular distributor 5 supplied with hydrocarbon gas which may be preheated; connected to the distributer are a number of small diameter pipes 7 also embedded in the lining and emerging into the shaft above the level of the tuyeres. At a still higher level air is introduced through pipes 8 to effect complate combustion of the gases. Slag is run off continuously from well 3 into a forehearth.
