Means for writing a binary code, comprises a plurality of mechanical coding elements, such as rollers (40) (Fig. 2, not shown), which are movable between operative and inoperative positions, a plurality of devices, such as cams (51), each movable between two positions, one of which (Fig. 2, not shown) results in movement of a respective element (40), transmission members (56a)-(56f) associated with, and controlling the position of, respective devices (51), and normally effective for bringing about one of the two positions of the elements (40), and a plurality of settable members (1)-(32) engageable with combinations of the transmission members (56a)-(56f) for releasing respective devices (51), whereby the respective elements (40) will remain in the other of the two positions, whereby the setting of one of the settable members (1)-(32) will produce the setting of a combination of positions of the elements (40) according to a binary coding allocated to the said one settable member. The description is identical to that of the parent Specification, 1,206,272. but the claims differ.
