Abstract

1,204,645. Tubing. NIEMAND BROS. Inc. 9 May, 1969 [20 May, 1968], No. 23787/69. Heading F2P. [Also in Division H4] A rigid tube 1, having stable dimensions, e.g. a voice coil tube (7) which actuates the speaker diaphragm (8) of a speaker assembly, Fig. 4 (not shown), comprises two layers 4, 2 which are bonded together by an adhesive the inner layer 2 being formed from a stiff and flexible material such as aluminium film or polyimide material and the outer layer 4 from a heat stable and moisture resistant material which is heat stable up to a temperature of at least 250‹ F. The outer layer 4 is made of polyimide, or polyimide paper, each layer being spirally wound, by butt joining successive windings, without adhesive, on to a smooth mandrel, the inner face of the inner layer 2 being preferably coated with an inter lubricant and the undersurface of the outer layer being coated with a polyester adhesive. The inner layer 2 is preferably wound at an angle of 45 degrees under a tension of 4 to 10 lb., the second layer 4 being similarly wound with its butt joints between those of the inner layer. The outer layer 4 may be surrounded by a third layer of thermosetting resinous material to receive a voice coil.
