Abstract

1,204,383. Antifoam liquids activated with treated silica. DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT. 31 Aug., 1967 [31 Aug., 1966], No. 39885/67. Heading C3T. Antifoam liquids are activated by incorporating therein a pyrogenic silica rendered hydrophobic by treatment with dimethyldichlorosilane. The silica described is " Aerosil " (Registered Trade Mark) R 972, having a surface of 120 Œ 30 m<SP>2</SP>/g., an average particle size about 20 mÁ and carbon content 1.1 Œ 0.2%. In examples it is added to various commercial silicone oils and other antifoam liquids, and the products are tested in detergent solutions.
