Abstract

1,204,017. Animal feed. SANKYO CO. Ltd. 11 Oct., 1968, No. 48402/68. Heading A2B. [Also in Division C6] An animal feed composition particularly suitable for the weaning of young domestic animals (piglets and calves) without giving rise to diarrhoea and dyspepsia, comprises at least one nutritional component and Bacillus coagulans (0.05-3 per cent by weight of the composition, based on a bacterium content of 10<SP>8</SP> per gram of bacterial preparation added). The Bacillus coagulans are cultured in a medium containing about 0.02 per cent isoleucine and about 0.2 per cent reducing sugar at a pH of 4.5-8.4 under aerobic conditions at an oxygen partial pressure of from 35 to 250 mm. Hg to bring about sporulation, the culture mass is then separated and dried at a temperature between 43-100‹C for not more than 12 hours, and the dried culture mass is diluted with starch or lactose. Nutritional components: skim milk powder, and starch or defatted soybean meal, supplemented by yeast, fish meal, soybean oil, glucose sodium chloride, calcium carbonate and calcium dihydrogen phosphate. Initial and follow-on feed formulations are disclosed.
