Abstract
1,203,630. Controlling burners. HONEYWELL Inc. 22 Nov., 1967 [13 Feb., 1967], No. 53171/67. Heading F4T. A burner control apparatus for a main burner 11 and pilot burner 13 includes a relay 21 having a winding 22 and normally open switches 23, 24, 25, a bimetal safety lockout timer 26 having a normally closed switch 27 and a heater 29, a timer 31 providing a time delay greater than the lockout timer and a flame detector unit 19 including a relay 20 and flame rod 17. Upon a call for heat by the bimetal thermostat 18 a circuit is completed through relay winding 22, lockout switch 27, heater 29, timer 31 and closed switch 50 of relay 20. A thermistor 51 provides a short delay before relay 21 pulls in to close switches 23, 24, 25 to energize pilot fuel valve 14 and ignition means 15, to provide a shunt circuit around the thermistor, and through switch 24 to provide maintaining circuits for heater 29 and for the relay 22 and heater 34 of the timer 31. Heater 29 is energized until flame is detected at the pilot burner and switch 50 opens and the arrangement is such that if timer 31 malfunctions by open-circuit relay 21 is de-energized to open switches 23, 24, 25. When the flame is established switch 60 of relay 20 closes to open main fuel valve 12, the completion of the timing of means 31 opening switch 32 to close valve 14 and de-energize the igniter 15. Subsequent flame failure closes valve 12 and operates the lockout switch 27.
