Abstract
1,202,130. Sewing machines. SINGER CO. 9 Dec., 1968 [12 Dec., 1967], No. 58379/68. Heading D1G. In a lock stitch sewing machine thread is located manually in clamps adjacent a bobbin so that the bobbin can be rewound in situ from the needle supply. The thread is first passed below the throat plate through a slot (not shown) and then moved to lie below a clamping spring 58 on the thread case and then below the arm 141 to a thread clamp 143. In this position it lies across the end flange of the bobbin which is rotated until a slot 96 therein takes the yarn and draws it from the needle 92. Rotation of shaft 142 against the action of spring 160 causes a curved arm 166 to lift a pinion 130 fixed to a bobbin drive shaft 126 into engagement with a gear wheel 102. The top of shaft 126 has a projection which engages with a corresponding slot in the bobbin. A latch arm 174 retains the shaft in the position to which it has been rotated by the swing arm 140.
