Abstract
1,200,579. Decanning nuclear fuel. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 17 July, 1969 [20 Aug., 1968], No. 35988/69. Heading G6R. Nitric acid solution arising from the decanning of nuclear fuel is selectively crystallized to eliminate crystals of the nitrate of the canning metal and leave fissile material in solution. Thus magnesium cans are dissolved in dilute nitric acid and the solution is concentrated to separate crystals of magnesium nitrate. The remaining solution is transferred to the tank where the decanned fuel is dissolved. Suitable plant is shown diagrammatically.
