A self-propelled rotary mower comprising baseplate 8, rear support wheels 37, dish-shaped cutter disc 6 and a power unit 10 driving the cutter disc, is characterized in that the forward support wheels 38 are mounted within the dish of the cutter disc. The baseplate 8 is provided with a metal skirt and a large central opening 9 through which the central conical portion 14 of a circular cutter disc 6 slightly projects. A hub portion 19 welded at 20 to the baseplate 8 supports a cylindrical sleeve 21 secured by a diametral pin 22 (not shown). A vee pulley 25 integral with cylindrical sleeve 26 that is riveted to the cutter disc, is journalled by bearing races to sleeve 21. An inner sleeve 30 is slidably mounted within outer sleeve 21 and provided with a slot through which the diametral pin 22 passes. The vertical displacement of the inner sleeve is governed by a rotating cross head 45 by which a nut 44 (not shown) connected to the inner sleeve, is raised or lowered. A retractable securing pin 32 locates in a hole in sleeve 21 and also in one of a series of holes in inner sleeve 30 according to the height adjustment required. A pair of wheels 38 is rotably supported on opposite ends of an axle 39 medially bolted at 40 through plates 39A to the lower end of sleeve 30. A helical spring 41 is compressed between a mounting plate 39A and pin 22. The rear wheels 37 are secured to the ends of radius arms 46 which are secured to the baseplate 8 at fulcrum points 47. A lever 52 secured to one arm 46 provides vertical adjustment of wheels 37 by urging radius arms 46 against a spring 51 and locking in any one of a series of holes 53 in a quadrant 54 of the baseplate 8.
