Abstract

1,198,552. Boots &c. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. 13 Jan., 1969 [1 Feb., 1968], No. 5232/68. Heading A3B. An insole is cut from a sheet of resin, the resin containing from 2 to 17 per cent by weight of polymerised vinyl acetate and being either a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate or a blend of such a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate or a blend of such a copolymer with polyethylene, and the sheet being an extruded foamed sheet having a substantially uniform thickness of from 0.04 inch to 0.2 inch, a substantially closed cell structure and a density from 17 to 40 pounds per cubic foot. The sheet is made by extruding the resin which contains a blowing agent, a nucleating agent and other additives such as colouring agents, antioxidants, stabilisers and lubricants. The sheet is preferably subjected to electric discharge treatment to improve the bonding of the adhesives used in assembling the shoe. The insole may also be combined with a rigid heelboard e.g. a cellulose fibre board.
