Abstract

1,198,198. Towel dispensing. C. W. SCHNYDER. 21 Aug., 1968 [8 Sept., 1967], No. 39959/68. Heading A4G. On withdrawing a hand towel 5 from a supply roll 4, tensioned between a measuring roller 6 or a presser roller 7 and a winding-up roll 9 driven by a driving roller 10, roller 7 is pivoted forward around the spinelle 6a of roller 6 and its spindle 7a pivots integral levers 28a, 28 about axis 6a, Fig. 4, so that time delay suction cups 29, 30 engage (Fig. 7). A lever projection 28c releases a pawl 21, which is then pivoted by a spring 32 into engagement with a ratchet wheel 20 which is rotatable with roller 10 so as to hold the latter. On further towel withdrawal, roller 6 rotates and via gearing 14, 15, 16 rotates a spring housing 17 of a spring power pack. A bush 18 on the pack core, secured to the spindle 10a of roller 10, is connected to housing 17 through a spiral spring (19, Fig. 5). When housing 17 rotates, parts 18, 10 remain stationary and spring (19) is loaded. A control element 26 rotates with gear 15 and contacts a pin 25b on a ratchet lever 25 and turns the latter into engagement with a ratchet wheel 24 on spinelle 6a (Fig. 8) to arrest roller 6. Lever 25 is held in this position by a pawl 27. The withdrawn towel hangs in a loop, and after a predetermined time suction cups 29, 30 detach and lever 28 returns under a spring to its original position. A lever projection 28b releases pawl 27 against its spring so that lever 25 spring returns to its original position, releasing wheel 24 and roller 6. Lever projection 28c contacts pawl 21 and releases it from wheel 20. Thus core 18 and roller 10 rotate under spring (19) and the withdrawn towel is wound up on roll 9 until taut, a spring-urged pawl 23 preventing rotation of housing 17. Roller 7 is mounted on a carrier (31, Fig. 3) pivoted on spindle 6a, and after towel withdrawal, roller 7 and carrier (31) are spring returned. Roller 6 may be covered with an abrasive cloth. Roller 7 may be spring- loaded towards roller 6, and the towel is also pressed against roller 6 by a resiliently mounted smooth stripper bar 8. The transmission ratio between gears 14 and 15 is such that wheel 24 makes 1¥ revs. for one rev. of element 26 so that the surface of roller 6 is not worn out. If rollers 10 and 6 have the same diameter, roller 10 will also make 1¥ revs. The transmission ratio between gears 14 and 16 is such that housing 17, at each operation, turns slightly more than roller 10. Thus spring (19) is loaded more at each operation so that when the supply 4 is used up, spring (19) winds on to roll 9 the complete remainder of the towel withdrawn during the last operation.
