Abstract

1,197,930. Cycloalkanols and cycloalkanones. BADISCHE ANILIN - & SODA - FABRIK A.G. 8 Dec., 1967 [9 Dec., 1966], No. 55936/67. Heading C2C. A cycloalkane is oxidized to a mixture of the corresponding cycloalkanol and cycloalkanone with a gas containing molecular oxygen at 130- 180‹ C. in the liquid phase under a pressure at least equivalent to the vapour pressure of the liquid mixture but not in excess of 50 atm. gauge, in the presence of 0.01 to 4% by weight of isobutyraldehyde based on the cycloalkane. Preferably a catalyst, e.g. cobalt naphthenate, is present. Examples are given of the oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone.
