Abstract

1,197,445. Motor vehicle body liner. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 27 Oct., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966], No. 49590/66. Heading B7J. [Also in Divisions B4-B5] A motor vehicle body panel liner e.g. for a roof 1 comprises a layer 3 of foamed synthetic polymeric material (e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane or polystyrene) covered by a treated skin 5 (e.g. fabric, plastics-coated fabric, plastics, paint or synthetic rubber &c.), the layer 3 being moulded with one or more necked cavities 4 resiliently engageable with metal or foamed plastics members 2 on the roof 1 to thereby retain the liner. The cavities 4 may also be of trapesoidal cross-section, and comprise either slots or sockets. The members 2 may be solid or hollow rails glued to (or integral with) the roof 1, or spring clips, engaging the slots; or may be studs engaging the sockets. The liner has a wire or strip framework embedded therein or attached thereto, and the walls of the cavity are reinforced by a resilient metal or plastics insert. The skin 5 may be integral with and of the same material as the foamed layer 3, or applied by spraying or brushing.
