A side 8 for a bed comprises a rod 24 which is provided with a hook 25 and an operating lever 26 and a rod 9 which has a stop 27 and through which rod 24 extends. In the upright position of the bed-side, the pillar 6 is located between the hook 25 and the stop 27 and lever 26 extends downwardly. For movement to an out-of-way position rod 24 is pushed by lever 26 to disengage hook 25 and allows the bed side 8 to be pivoted downwardly.
