Abstract

1,195,571. Tunnelling flmchiues. GERR. EICKHOFF MASCHINENFABRIK U. EISENGIESSEREI m.b.H. 26 June, 1967 [25 June, 1966], No. 29305/67. Heading E1F. In; a tunnelling machine in which a self advancing frame 2 supports a carrier 11 that can be rotated about an axis 26 and carries at least one cutter armed, frusto conical member 16 that can be rotated by a motor 21 about an axis 18 radially spaced from the axis 26, the means 6 and 9 for advancing the frame andfor rotating the carrier are so coupled that for each rotation of the carrier, the or each 16 is advanced through a distance less than the minimum axial spacing between adjacent lines of cut of the cutters of the member or members 16, said cutters being uniformly spaced axially of the or each member. The or each member 16 is so mounted on the carrier that the member or someof the members can be adjusted radially of said axis. Preferably two members 16 are so provided on the carrier that the axes of rotation of the members are inclined to but do not intersect the axis of rotation of the carrier.
