Abstract

1,195,145. Surgical instruments. HOLLISTER Inc. 10 June, 1968 [26 July, 1967], No. 27573/68. Heading A5R. A one piece surgical instrument 10 suitable for rupturing an amniotic membrane comprises an elongated member having a blunt surface on one end 14 of the member, an integral hook portion extending sidewardly from the member adjacent to the blunt surface, the hook terminating in a curved pointed end which is directed away from the blunt surface, and a handle portion 16 extending from adjacent to the hook to the opposite end of the member. As shown, the instrument, which is formed from a synthetic plastics material, is at elongate tapering form. and is straight, or may have a slight bend or bow, and the handle portion 16 is flat or oval in cross-section. An arrow 22 on the handle portion corresponds to the orientation of the hook. The instrument may be provided sterile within, a package 24 (Fig. 8, not shown) having a tear strip longitudinally or at one end of the package, or the instrument may be provided sterile within a package which is a tube having a cap.
